After a long day of schedule confusion, the town of Jim Thorpe was thrilled to welcome Rand McNally and USA Today Best of Road judges Dusty and Nikki “Two for the Road” Green, who will help determine if Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania is the “Most Beautiful Small Town in America.”
The couple, who hail from Austin, Texas, was selected from among dozens of folks who sent in video submissions hoping to be a rally participant. They are charged with blogging about and touring the towns in the running for the title of “Most Beautiful Small Town in America.”
The Greens arrived in Jim Thorpe late yesterday afternoon in their Honda CRV, drove past the train station, up Broadway and down Race Street before arriving at the Josiah White Park for the welcoming ceremony.
“When we stopped the car, I already had tears in my eyes,” Nikki Green said.
Mayor Mike Sofranko presented the couple with keys to Jim Thorpe and invited them to not only enjoy the beauty of Jim Thorpe and the activities the chamber of commerce has lined up for them but also to visit the borough’s baseball fields and basketball courts.
“When you go out and see the beautiful scenery, remember the beauty of Jim Thorpe lies in the residents that are here,” Sofranko said.
