The world is finding out what we’ve known all along – romance and Jim Thorpe are perfect together. Philadelphia Magazine recently awarded Jim Thorpe its Best of Philly 2012: Best Romantic Getaway designation.
From the moment the town reveals itself as you round the Lehigh Gorge, there is no doubt you are entering someplace beautiful and magical, almost a fairytale land come to life. A horse-drawn carriage ride from the train station, up Broadway and down historic Race Street – the most romantic street in the Poconos – is a perfect way to enjoy a special moment with the one you love.
It’s also one of several great spots in town to “pop the question.” We met a couple this fall who were engaged just about the spot where the above picture was taken.
We’ve had guests pledge their love and promise their lives together at the top of the beautiful Glen Onoko Falls, across the road from us in the Race Street park, (where a renowned Japanese artist created a beautiful garden and a bench memorializes a beloved husband), Jim Thorpe restaurants, as well as in one of our own Times House suites.
Anniversary couples flock to Jim Thorpe as a special way to celebrate together that makes them feel far away from their everyday lives, without the time and expense of having to travel too far away from home.
It’s also a popular getaway spot for young couples, who after dropping the kiddies off with their parents, reconnect over dinner at Moya’s – recommended by Philadelphia Magazine – or while hiking, biking, wine tasting at Big Creek, shopping or strolling through galleries in town on the way to a fabulous show at the Mauch Chunk Opera House. Jim Thorpe is also just a short drive to Blue Mountain Ski Area.
It’s not the first time in 2012, Jim Thorpe has received high honors. This summer the town was designated one of the top five most beautiful small towns in America by Rand McNally and USA Today.
Don’t take our word for it, Philadelphia Magazine’s or Rand McNally’s and USA Today’s for that matter. Come and discover for yourself the romance and beauty of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.
