The forsythia, lilacs and trees are beginning to bloom in Jim Thorpe, just in time to celebrate Saturday’s Earth Day Festival and a whole lot more fun.
While there’ll be concerts at the Josiah White Park, Dimmick Memorial Library and outside the Mauch Chunk Opera House to get your Earth Day groove on, there will also be plenty of earth-friendly activities to enjoy, especially the Lehigh River Clean Up. Volunteers will meet by the green Volkswagen bus at the train station for supplies before cleaning the riverbanks from approximately Highland Beverage to the Jim Thorpe Market. All Volunteers will get a voucher for either a FREE t-shirt or FREE food at our Earth Day stands.
A Green It Up Workshop, sponsored by our friends at 13th Moon, will be also be held in the Race Street Park, across the street from the Times House on Saturday from 2-3 p.m. The 13th Moon’s soap-maker extraordinaire, Selena Mazmanian, will teach you how to make household cleaning products out of all natural, chemical free everyday products. ($5.00 donation for supplies).
Check out the link above for a full schedule of events. Rain date is Sunday, April 21.
Sound Check Records, 23 Broadway, will also celebrate Record Store Day on Saturday, one of two days a year where independently owned record store patrons have access to special releases – CD and vinyl – and various promotional products. For more information, visit Sound Check’s Facebook page or http://www.recordstoreday.com
Last but not least the Mauch Chunk Opera House has an outstanding lineup this weekend – Willie Porter tonight and Grammy Award-winner Paula Cole on Saturday night.
