Raucous laughter is sure to ensue at the Mauch Chunk Opera House on Friday night when the touring company of the famed Upright Citizens Brigade takes the stage for a night of improv by the “next wave” of comedy superstars.
The first wave included founding members Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts, Matt Walsh and rippled out to splash much of today’s television and film comedies.
The UCB website touts company members’ successes from Saturday Night Live to Happy Endings to The Office to Parks and Recreation, as well as the writing rooms and offices of the Colbert Report, the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, MAD TV, not to mention Bridesmaids, Mean Girls, and The Hangover on the silver screen.
Friday’s Jim Thorpe audience will be rewarded with a unique show performed by Zack Willis, Patrick Noth, Shaun Diston, and Sebastian Connelli, that no one has ever seen before and will never see again. In longform improvisation, performers create an entire show consisting of interconnected scenes, characters, and ideas completely made-up on the spot with no pre-planning or pre writing. Take a look at the brigade in action.
Tickets are $20, available online and at the Mauch Chunk Opera House box office. Call 570-325-0249. Showtime Friday is 8:30 p.m.
