We love them…yeah, yeah, yeah

Concert-goers are in for a treat as the Cast of Beatlemania takes the stage this weekend for a two night gig at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe. Tonight’s show focuses on Meet the Beatles and Abbey Road while Saturday’s performance covers the gamut of Beatles tunes throughout their career.

As I was driving up the turnpike yesterday listening to the Rubber Soul CD, on loan from my 19-year-old son, Ben, I thought about how John, Paul, George and Ringo may have been born across the pond but their music is just as much a part of our own musical heritage.

The very first 45 I ever owned had Something on one side and Come Together on the flip. I was eight. It was a Christmas 1969 gift from my parents along with a record player and an Isley Brothers album. Since my father was a musician, I grew up listening to great music.

When my kids were little, they were taught to recognize the Fab Four’s songs on the radio. In July, Ben drove to Pittsburgh and back again to watch Sir Paul onstage and shared the experience with me through texts. “My life is complete,” he wrote upon exiting the arena.

For those who check out the Mauch Chunk Opera House shows this weekend, I have a feeling they’ll be not only be singing along with the Cast of Beatlemania, they’ll be reliving their own Beatles memories and perhaps even making one or two.

Tickets are $22. Doors open at 7 p.m.; Showtime – 8 p.m.
