Trains return to Jim Thorpe just in time for WinterFest

Jim Thorpe visitors and merchants got an early Valentine’s Day present when Reading Northern Blue Mountain Railroad announced earlier today that trains will return to town this weekend.

The railroad’s Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway suspended service in November over a tax dispute with the borough, which has recently been resolved.

Trains will run at 11 .am., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The addition of the trains is the icing on the cake for a weekend full of fun in Jim Thorpe.

Ice sculptures are always a highlight of Jim Thorpe’s WinterFest.

The Jim Thorpe historic district will be aglow with luminaries on Friday, February 14 for a romantic Valentine’s Day stroll, while the the 28th annual WinterFest will feature ice carvings, live entertainment, horse drawn carriage rides, food and drink specials, two ice sculpture bars, a blacksmith demonstration, a special Kid’s Club area, and the now famous (sold out) Mug Walk.
