No need to curse the Monday after Daylight Savings Time. Extra daylight means more time for fun and adventure in beautiful Jim Thorpe!
Take a hike or a bike ride along the D&L Trail and check out landscapes that will be hidden in the coming months once the trees along the canal and river turn green. Listen to the rush of the river and breathe in the clean, fresh air. (Did you know the Times House is a D&L Trail Friendly Business with bike storage, maps, tools, pump, water and snacks for the trail?)
Enjoy the sun on your shoulder while sipping a post-ride pint on the deck of the Molly Maguire or Marion Hose Bar or while strolling the historic district shops for your Saint Patty’s Day gear just in time for the Jim Thorpe Irish Fest this weekend.
Irish Fest highlights include the Celtic staples of the Tartan Terrors (Saturday) and Kilmaine Saints (Friday) at the Mauch Chunk Opera House to get your Irish blood flowing, plenty of tea and ale and whiskey, horse and carriage rides, a Kilt Crawl, a Benefit Irish Brunch at St. Mark’s Church on Saturday morning, a Youth Fiddle Competition from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Cafe Arielle at the Stabin Museum 268 West Broadway. On Sunday there, you’ll enjoy live Celtic music at Café Arielle while you enjoy brunch. Last but not least you’ll enjoy strolling bagpipers on Sunday.
